Integrated pest management in Portland

We look first and treat last.

Tansy Pest Care works out what is getting in and why, closes the way, watches, and treats only what is left, with a licensed applicator following the label every time.

How we work

Four steps, always in this order

This is integrated pest management. Prevention and watching come first, and a product comes in only when they aren't enough.

  • 01

    Look

We walk the outside, then the inside with a flashlight, and name the pest before we name a plan. Often it is not the one you guessed.

    The first step
  • 02

    Close

A pest needs a way in, food and water. We seal gaps, point out damp wood and change what invites them. Much of the lasting fix is here.

  • 03

    Watch

Monitors go where we saw activity and are checked on a schedule. Each check goes in your notes with a date.

  • 04

    Treat

Only if the pests are still active: the least-toxic option where it works, placed where they are, and the label followed.

What we treat

What we are called for in Portland

Homes and small buildings across Portland, in the neighborhoods listed further down.

  • Carpenter ants and damp wood

They nest in wood that is already wet: a window frame, a deck post, a wall behind a leak.

    Carpenter ants
  • Mice and rats

Cold rain sends them indoors. We close the gaps first, then trap.

    Mice and rats
  • Yellowjackets and wasps

Nests in eaves, sheds and the ground. We tell you what we can reach.

  • Pantry moths and beetles

Usually one forgotten bag of flour or birdseed. We find it and explain.

    All services
  • Spiders and silverfish

Basements and bathrooms. Moisture is almost always the reason.

  • Fleas

In the house, but the pet and the yard are part of the plan.

What this approach can't do

Integrated pest management is slower than a monthly spray, and it doesn't fit every problem. This is where it stops.

  • It usually takes more than one visit, because we watch before we decide.

  • Sometimes a product is the right answer, and then we use one.

  • We can't promise a pest will never return. We can promise a written note of what we found and what we did.

  • Termites, bed bugs and wildlife are separate work. We say so on the first call.

Customers

What Portland customers told us

“They found the gap behind the dishwasher on the first visit and showed me a photo of it. The mesh went in that week, and there were two check visits after.”

Kiesha T.Southeast Portland

“I asked them to explain every product, and they handed me a sheet with each label on it. Nobody had done that before.”

Patty B.Multnomah Village

“The carpenter ants turned out to be a damp window frame. We fixed the frame before anyone sprayed anything.”

Mihir S.Kenton

Questions we hear first

How much does pest control cost?

It depends on the house, the pest and how much sealing is needed, so we don't print a price. The pricing page lists what moves the number, and you get it in writing before any work starts.

Are your treatments safe for kids and pets?

We can't call any treatment risk-free, and a product's label doesn't allow it. A licensed applicator follows the label, tells you where and for how long to keep children and pets away, and sends the product name and label before the visit if you ask.

How long until I see results?

Most homes see less activity within a week or two, though it varies with the pest and the house. A few stragglers right after a visit are normal. We book a check visit so you aren't left guessing.

Do I need to be home?

For the first visit, yes, or someone you trust: we walk the house with you and show you what we find. For a check visit, we can work from a key code or a lockbox if you tell us where the pets are.

Do I have to sign a contract?

No. You approve a written quote for a defined job. There's no yearly contract and no automatic renewal.
